This is a continuation from the post about how I ended up in a life-changing job. Why is it a life-changing job? To be honest, I've been working many different part-time jobs but I've never considered getting a full-time job, or a job that requires a specific skill. This job pays really well (compared to those jobs in the past). It made me leave my part-time jobs and realized that I could actually earn this much without sleeping four hours everyday.
So, to summarize the previous post in a sentence, I broke my arm in an accident and couldn't continue working at my part time jobs so I got a job that's quite dangerous.
When I first got in, I knew that the job was illegal. We were even taught to use VPN so the police couldn't detect us. Sometimes, we had to move to different locations because there were news about the authorities searching the area.
How's it illegal?
The job's related to gambling. According to the law, gambling is illegal.
What's our job?
We have a system that allows our customers to deposit an amount in their account. Our customers are casinos or online gaming companies. When their players won games and wanted to check out their money, the casinos keyed the banking data of their players into our system. We then helped them to do the transactions. Our bank accounts were registered under the names of charities. Thus, if the bank happened to ask the players the source and purpose of the transaction, they could say that it has something to do with charity or some sort.
From what was mentioned above, there are two points. First, it's illegal. Second, it sounds harmless even though illegal. Of course the law and rules are there for a reason. However, there are always some harmless roundabouts we take to do something while trying to avoid punishments. It's not the kind where you drive drunk. That's dangerous. What I meant was something like sneaking food in a class or hiding in the bathroom to take a quick nap during class. Those are individual choices that are harmless but not allowed.
It's true that gambling is illegal. The law is there for the good of the people. That's because gambling can cause many bigger issues if not controlled. However, I believe that those who chose to gamble had made a choice. They are grown-up adults who can and have to take responsibilities for their own lives.
My job was merely to help do the transactions. I wasn't even involved in the gambling process. Since I have only my legs and fingers to use during that time, I chose to work here even though it's illegal.
My decisions were made mainly due to the circumstances during that time. It turned out, things weren't as simple as I knew. I found out about many other things regarding this company I work at in the prosecutors' office the following year.
If I knew about those, would I still choose to work there?
What happened when I was taken away?
Let's keep this post short and talk about it another time. Till then!
