The World of Documentaries

On doomsday (July 5th), I was at an event.

Someone I knew was a member of a documentary company. A fortnight ago, at a party, she sat beside me and we were trying to engage in a conversation amidst all the noises of people talking in the background. I have bad hearing and she talked really softly but I managed to catch a few keywords about an event. Thinking back, it was absurd and really hilarious how we actually managed to keep the conversation going with that bad connection.

The only savior of the situation was a short description and link of the event she sent me on the Line app. After the party, I was looking at the message she sent, trying to figure out what she really wanted me to do. I caught the keyword 'reference' during the conversation at the party. What did she really say? "Refer to this and see if you could make it?"

I got a headache from thinking too hard. Eventually, I put the message aside and forgot about it. A week before the event, she messaged me and asked me if I could make it. I'm glad she did.

It was a great experience!

The event started with a performance by a very special band. Their original Atayal acoustic songs Ngasal (Home) and Tuqi (Road) were amazing! I immediately messaged my friend during the interval. "Too bad I didn't drag you here. There's this band performance. They're amazing!" She's from the Amis tribe and currently very much into music, she bought so many instruments and turned her rental room into a music studio. I have a feeling she'd really enjoy the performance.

Back to the main event of the day! Documentary screening~~

「家鄉的旅程」Home Journey, a 90 minutes documentary by Director Chen

The documentary features the journey of an educational project in the rural areas of Taiwan. It captures the ups and downs during the lengthy program, from the proposal phrase to the end of the presentation. During the process, the primary school students and teachers, young team assistants, administrative assistants, and everyone involved worked hard to make it a success. It shows us the growth of different individuals throughout the program and how different opinions of personals of different stages causes disagreements. Those are the elements of documentary, real and relatable.

Overall, we were all moved by the documentary. It's amazing to be able to join the children in their journey to figure out their identity and love for their hometown. It's true that we were all deeply moved. I could vouch for it. Why? At some point of the video, when my eyes watered, the lady to my left was busy looking for tissues from her bag while the lady to my right was wiping her tears.

After the event, I fell in love with documentaries.

To simplify my feelings in a sentence; I couldn't get enough.

I know that nobody reads this blog. It doesn't matter because I don't write for publication reasons. However, if you just so happen to come across this post, you're in for a treat as there are more documentaries like this in the following weeks. The screening schedule:
